Fujifilm GF 500mm f/5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens Summary
Weighing just 1,375g and boasting a compact, well-balanced design, the Fujifilm GF 500mm f/5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens introduces super telephoto capabilities to medium format GFX system users for the first time.
The super telephoto lens, with a full-frame equivalent of 396mm, effortlessly captures distant subjects like sports, wildlife, and birdphotography. With the optional GF 1.4x teleconverter, its reach extends to 554mm (35mm equivalent), broadening creative possibilities in sports and wildlife photography when paired with any GFX camera.

Fujifilm has incorporated a high-speed linear motor into the GF 500mm lens, which benefits from silent operation and is ideal for both stills and video recording. A focus limiter and memory functions further enhance the ability to fast focus on subjects, which typically remain at a predictable distance from the camera body.
Despite its sophisticated optical design featuring 21 elements in 14 groups, including 5 ED and 2 Super-ED elements, this GF medium format lens remains remarkably compact and is balanced towards the rear to facilitate effective panning.

Fujifilm GF 500mm f/5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens in More Detail
Super telephoto reach with GFX
For the first time Fuji’s medium format GFX creators have a super telephoto lens, with an extremely useful range for distant subjects. The 396mm equivalent reach (35mm) is perfect for subjects such as birds, wildlife, sports and action, especially when paired with the ever-faster burst speeds of powerful GFX system cameras.

When adding the optional teleconverter reach is ideal for aviation photography and similar genres, which were all but impossible previously without cropping, even when shooting with the GF 250mm F4 R LM OIS WR lens. This newer 500mm GFX lens offers twice as much reach, yet weighs even less than the older 250mm lens.
Medium format optics
An advanced optical design ensures that the Fujifilm GF 500mm f/5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens delivers premium image quality with resolving power, which is capable of rendering over 100 megapixels. The optical formula includes 5 ED and 2 Super-ED elements, which are responsible for reducing chromatic aberrations and resolving high levels of detail, with excellent contrast and clarity in a variety of lighting conditions.

Quiet linear AF motor
Thanks to the inclusion of a linear motor the lens achieves silent AF in any situation, whether recording video or capturing continuous burst stills. It supports high-speed shooting with increased speed, maintaining pace with Fuji’s latest AF technologies including Face/Eye detection and subject tracking for humans, birds and animals.
Powerful 6.0-stop image stabilisation
The telephoto lens features 6.0-stop image stabilisation, which is achieved by improving the sensing accuracy of camera shake and incorporating an optimal mechanism design. This allows for more comfortable handheld shooting in the challenging super telephoto range, where camera shake is typically more pronounced.

Versatile and rugged design
The versatility of the super telephoto GF lens is enhanced through a number of well conceived features, which include a close 2.75m minimum focus distance, enabling tele-macro style shooting. Focus limiter and memory functions speed-up subject acquisition, while the Arca-Swiss compatible foot caters to photographers who shoot with a tripod or monopod.
Fujifilm has included a weather resistant design for outdoor photography and videography, along with an Arca-type lens foot, which is extremely welcome for the vast majority of users who shoot from a tripod or monopod.
