Atomos Ninja TX Monitor/Recorder Summary

The Atomos Ninja TX takes the Ninja monitor-recorder and builds on it with significant upgrades for contemporary production workflows. It combines professional-monitoring, internal recording, and wireless camera-to-cloud delivery in a compact 5-inch unit, which boasts a bright 1500nit HDR display and built-in Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.

This new generation Atomos Ninja includes both HDMI 2.0 and 12G-SDI inputs and outputs, expanding compatibility with a wider range of professional cameras and multi-cam systems.

All major codecs come pre-installed, including Apple ProRes and ProRes RAW, Avid DNx, H.265, H.264 and NDI HX3, with no activation required. Media options have been updated too, with dual USB-C ports and support for fast CFexpress Type B cards (available separately), which ensures that Ninja TX is suitable for high-resolution recording up to 8K at 30fps, as well as 4K up to 60fps and 1080p up to 120fps when using the HDMI input.

Atomos Ninja TX Monitor/Recorder in More Detail

Support for Major Codecs

The Ninja TX arrives with a set of industry-standard codecs pre-installed, including Apple ProRes, ProRes RAW, Avid DNx, H.265, H.264 and NDI 6 HX3, with no need for activation or any separate purchase. This range ensures broad compatibility with most professional workflows, from high-end cinematic projects to efficient H.265 proxy delivery.

CFexpress and USB-C Storage Integration

Internal recording is supported via high-speed CFexpress Type B cards, which is ideal for data-intensive formats such as ProRes RAW at up to 8Kp30. In addition, dual USB-C ports allow direct recording to compatible SSDs or other external storage devices which use NVMe protocols. USB-C also opens the door to screen calibration tools such as Calibrite devices, with further accessories expected to be supported via firmware updates.

HDMI and SDI Input and Output

The Atomos Ninja TX includes both HDMI 2.0 and 12G-SDI input and output connections for greater integration with professional systems, and HDMI input supports up to 8K at 30fps, 4K at 60fps and Full HD at 120fps. Loop-through is available on both HDMI and SDI, making it easy to pass signals through to wireless systems, external monitors or live streaming encoders. Built-in cross conversion between HDMI and SDI is also supported.

Super-Bright 1500nit HDR Display

A 5-inch touchscreen display delivers a 1500nit peak brightness and 10-bit processing, with HDR monitoring and colour-accurate images even in bright conditions. The highly developed and responsive AtomOS interface allows quick access to exposure tools, focus aids, and frame guides for different platforms, giving creators a very reliable reference while recording.

Wireless Camera to Cloud Integration

This recorder features Wi-Fi 6E, which enables direct upload of footage to the cloud from the field. Compatible services include ATOMOSphere, Frame.io, and Dropbox, with support for progressive uploads. The Camera to Cloud (C2C) workflow eliminates the need to offload footage manually, saving time in post-production and enabling faster client approvals or collaboration.

Built-In Timecode Sync

Timecode synchronisation is handled by AirGlu™, Atomos’ RF and Bluetooth solution, which allows Ninja TX to act as a timecode hub across multiple devices, including compatible cameras, recorders and monitors. With frame-accurate sync, multi-cam shoots can maintain alignment throughout without requiring additional hardware.

NDI Streaming Over Wi-Fi

Ninja TX includes support for NDI 6 HX3 for high-quality video transmission over local networks with low bandwidth requirements. The unit can function as both a transmitter and a receiver, and can be integrated into existing NDI environments for live production, wireless monitoring and even for remote streaming.

Cooling and Power

The internal design of Ninja TX has been updated with improved heat dissipation and quieter operation. For power users have the choice of USB-C Power Delivery (PD), NP-F batteries, or the included AC power adaptor with a locking connector. This allows the device to be run from wall power, power banks and camera rigs.

Build Quality

Both HDMI and USB-C connections include dedicated locking adaptors to prevent accidental disconnections during recording. These secure connections are particularly useful in busy sets or when the device is mounted in difficult to reach positions. Despite its small size and lightweight design, Ninja TX has a robust enclosure and future-ready connectivity.

AtomOS

Ninja TX runs on the Linux-based AtomOS operating system, which provides stable performance and over-the-air firmware updates. Updates no longer require manual file transfer via SSDs, allowing for new features to be added more simply with firmware updates over time. Atomos has confirmed that audio devices and other accessories will be supported via USB-C in the future.

Versatility Across Production Types

The Ninja TX can tackle a wide range of shooting situations, and caters to long-form recording, cinematic productions, timecode sync for multicam environments, and even has frame guides for social content creators. With universal format support, integrated networking, and support for 8K, this monitor-recorder is ready for any workflow.
