Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art Lens for L Mount Summary
Made for photographers and video creators who want the brightest possible aperture, the Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art Lens for L Mount is a standard prime, which excels in low light situations. The wide f/1.2 aperture also houses Sigma’s first ever 13 rounded diaphragm blade design, which renders exquisite bokeh and silky smooth defocus areas.
An advanced optical design with four aspherical lens elements serves to both control aberrations and render extremely high sharpness across the whole frame. The results speak for themselves, with a prime well suited to beautifully shallow depth of field portraits, engaging street photography, and for travel, video or virtually any everyday subjects.
The full-frame L mount 50mm Art lens is compatible with the Leica SL system, Panasonic Lumix S cameras and Sigma’s own FP-L system. It supports linear and non-linear focus ring settings, while also being extremely lightweight for handholding and easy balancing when shooting with a gimbal stabiliser.
This Sigma lens also benefits from dual HLA motors, which provide fast and quiet autofocus, and the lens barrel controls ensure users can optimise their workflow. A de-clickable aperture, suppressed focus breathing and the near silent AF system cement this model as an excellent potion for video creators.
Additionally the compact 72mm front thread enables the use of cost-effective camera lens filters, while the lightweight design is sealed from dust and moisture to support of outdoor content creation.

Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art Lens for L Mount in More Detail
Lightweight design for everyday shooting
Ideal for photographers who want lightweight kit without compromising on quality, this lens is designed to be used anytime, anywhere, even when shooting all day. The Sigma 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art is made using innovative techniques with technology to ensure exceptional portability, and a lightweight design suitable for a wide range of applications.

A bright aperture and outstanding quality
With a bright f/1.2 aperture which features 13 rounded diaphragm blades, the Sigma 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art creates beautiful bokeh effects and smooth out-of-focus areas in the image. Using the latest optical design techniques with a form comprised of 17 elements in 12 groups (including 4 aspherical elements), the lens delivers sharp results across the entire frame with exceptional contrast and colour.
Focus breathing is also heavily suppressed, enabling videographers to capture creative shots without dramatic shifts in focus. The Leica L version of the lens, supports switching between linear and non-linear focus ring settings, as well as USB dock compatibility for firmware updates and fine-tuning.

Impressive results across the focus range
By correcting spherical aberration, sagittal coma flare, axial chromatic aberration, and other aberrations like double-line bokeh, the 50mm f/1.2 Art lens achieves natural bokeh with smooth blur and no colour bleeding from the focal plane.
Additionally, a floating focus system enhances its performance at short range, maintaining high optical quality across the entire focusing range, from near to far.

First ever Sigma lens with 13 diaphragm blades
The Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art Lens for L mount introduces a first for Sigma, with its implementation of a 13 rounded diaphragm blade design. This development ensures that when shooting subjects wide open at f/1.2, the aperture retains a circular shape.
The results allows creators to effortlessly capture portraits and still life shots with outstanding background separation, and beautifully round bokeh balls.

Reduces focus breathing, flare and ghosting
This lens has undergone optimisation in its optical construction and focus group arrangements in order to significantly suppress focus breathing. Focus shift is also minimised, resulting in a natural focus shift look when recording video.
Thanks to a Super Multi-Layer Coating, flare and ghosting are effectively reduced, even in heavily backlit environments such as street and event photography, which helps to maintain contrast in difficult lighting conditions.

High speed AF with dual HLA focus motors
You can achieve effortless and reliable focus for your subject with the newly revised focusing system in this lens. Utilising a floating focusing system powered by dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motors, the Sigma 50mm f/1.2 lens maintains AF performance while reducing its size. This ensures creators experience fast, quiet, and accurate focusing, making it perfect for virtually any situation.
The AF system is fully compatible with high-speed autofocus, and offers support for DMF and AF+MF.

Unique lens design
With a unique lens and mechanical design, the Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art Lens for Leica L leverages state-of-the-art production technology at Sigma’s manufacturing base in Aizu, Japan. Each glass element has been reduced in size while retaining elements with a high refractive index, resulting in a more compact lens.
Four aspherical glass elements and a floating focus system are used to further reduce size while still effectively minimising aberrations. As a result, the Sigma 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art is the lightest lens in its class, weighing only 745g.
Easy ergonomics and usability
The Sigma 50mm lens for mirrorless cameras offers a variety of shooting assist functions, including a customisable AFL button. A built-in aperture control ring allows for control over depth-of-field, while an aperture ring lock switch prevents accidental knocks when in use.
An aperture click switch can be toggled to switch aperture ring clicks on or off, which is ideal for video and quiet shooting situations.
Additionally, the lens features a dust and splash-resistant structure, and the front element is coated with a water and oil repellent coating, allowing photographers to shoot confidently in harsh outdoor environments. A lockable petal shaped lens hood is included for shade, and to provide some protection for the front element.
Please note that while the structure is designed to resist dust and splashes, it is not waterproof. Avoid exposing the lens to large amounts of water, as water inside the lens may cause significant damage.
