Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Fujifilm X Mount Summary

Available for the first time for the Fujifilm system is the highly accomplished Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Fujifilm X Mount. It joins a trio of lenses specially developed by Sigma with control algorithms optimised for Fujifilm cameras to include high-speed AF and AF-C continuous tracking. In-camera aberration corrections have also been developed which deliver excellent results for shooting both stills and video.

With an equivalent around 46mm focal width (full frame), the 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary offers a natural field of view of 50.7°, which is perfect as a walk around lens suited to everyday photography and moviemaking. It is also the lightest of the three Fujifilm lenses to come from Sigma weighing just 275g, making it an eminently portable standard prime for all-day shooting.

The bright f/1.4 aperture is designed with a 9-bladed diaphragm allowing users to continue shooting in extremely low light conditions, as well as experiment with fine depth of field for portraits and other subjects, rendering buttery smooth out of focus areas. The optical formula has been developed for mirrorless cameras to deliver sharp, detailed and high resolution results combined with Fujifilm’s beautiful colour science.

Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Fujifilm X Mount in More Detail

The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Fujifilm was released at the same time as the 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Fujifilm X Mount and 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Fuji X. All three arrive fully compatible with phase-detect AF, whether shooting stills or video subjects and offer high speed AF and AF-C compatibility. In-camera corrections reduce aberrations with spectacular results for which Sigma lenses are renowned.

Versatile Standard Lens With Bright Aperture

A prime lens with a focal length of around 50mm and bright f/1.4 aperture offers an angle of view very similar to human vision. The photographer can use shallow depth of field at wide-open apertures to take stunning portraits and still life shots. The lens focal width is also versatile to enable a greater depth of field when shooting landscapes or everyday snapshots. This versatility contributes to 50mm lenses being amongst the most popular over many decades of photography.

Optimised for Mirrorless Cameras

For optimal balance with lightweight, compact camera bodies and a short flange back distance, Sigma designed the new Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary lens to be extremely compact. The special design of the focus lens group allows fast and smooth AF performance for videography and more. This resulting compact design and comfortable operation prioritise outstanding image quality which include Sigma’s latest technologies, which enable digital optical distortion correction.

TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) Casing

The Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary features a lens barrel and aperture parts made of TSC, which contribute both to the compactness of the lens and the smooth functioning of the aperture system. This cutting edge material also helps to increase the precision of cells holding lens elements and parts related to the focus lens group, further enhancing lens performance.

Compact Design With High Quality Results

The front lens element features high-refractive index, high-dispersion glass for extra power and shorter overall size. To optimise the lens for mirrorless cameras, two aspherical lens elements help ensure outstanding image quality and overall dimensions. The Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary also includes Sigma’s inner focus technologies, with a more compact actuator. Structurally, the lens features materials and parts that contribute to its compact, lightweight nature.

Dust and Splash Resistant Structure

The mount features a special sealing to make the lens an excellent choice in a wide variety of conditions.

Outstanding Image Quality

In addition to featuring an optimised layout and power distribution, this lens incorporates one aspherical lens element and one double aspherical lens element. There is also an element made of high-refractive index, high-dispersion glass with high anomalous partial dispersion. By effectively leveraging these technologies, the lens delivers an outstanding level of light to the edges of the image while minimising transverse chromatic aberration. To correct distortion, the lens takes advantage of the image correction capabilities of Fujifilm camera bodies, using the corrective power of the optical system to enhance sharpness. The final result is an extremely compact lens which delivers image quality that rivals that of Sigma’s high-end Art line lenses.

Minimised flare and ghosting

From an early stage in the lens design process, flare and ghosting have been measured to establish an optical design resistant to strong incident light sources. Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting to help photographers produce sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions. The included lens hood can be attached to block out extraneous light, which can have a negative effect on rendering.

Shallow depth of field for a beautiful bokeh

The large-diameter lens with f/1.4 brightness makes possible a shallow depth of field for a beautiful bokeh effect. The 9-blade rounded diaphragm creates an attractive blur in the out-of-focus areas of the image.
