Samyang AF 16mm f/2.8 P FE Lens for Sony E
Samyang AF 16mm f/2.8 P FE Lens for Sony E Summary
The Samyang AF 16mm f/2.8 P FE Lens for Sony E creates a trio of super lightweight ‘Prima’ lenses for full-frame Sony mirrorless cameras. Samyang has developed the line to be ‘tiny but powerful’ with newly designed optics that render high resolution and enhanced image quality.
This 16mm ultra wide Sony lens has a fast aperture and well controlled focus breathing, which is excellent news for hybrid creators who switch between stills and video content. The wide field of view shows plenty of background elements when vlogging, while reducing distortion for a realistic image, even when shooting close to the subject.
Edge to edge sharpness extends the use of this lens to classic subjects such as landscapes, cityscapes, architecture and interiors, and the super compact and portable design complements smaller full-frame bodies like the A7C series, as well as A7 and vlogging-specific cameras.
Whether you collect the trio or use one or two from the current ultra lightweight Prima series, expect to be impressed by the combination of lightweight design, ease-of-use and high quality results which this new range can achieve.

Samyang AF 16mm f/2.8 P FE Lens for Sony E in More Detail
One of a trio of Prima lenses
Samyang has developed three models in the current Prima lens series including the first to arrive, which was the AF 35mm F/1.4 P FE Lens For Sony E. This is joined by the AF 85mm f/1.8 P FE Lens for Sony E and this AF 16mm f/2.8 P FE Lens, creating a versatile set of hybrid lenses for high-quality stills and video content creation.
Ultra-Wide Field of View
The Samyang AF 16mm f/2.8 P FE delivers an ultra wide 107° angle of view on full-frame Sony E-mount cameras, which is perfect for landscapes, interiors, astrophotography, and wide-angle video and vlogs. On APS-C bodies, the field of view reduces to 84.1°, providing a 24mm equivalent look that is still wide and very popular.
Lightweight with Close Focusing
Weighing just 250g with the hood attached, the lens is compact and light to carry for travel or handheld shooting. It focuses as close as 0.12m, offering a 0.33x magnification ratio for dramatic wide-angle close-ups or environmental shots with foreground emphasis.
Sharp Optics
The lens construction includes 8 elements in 7 groups, with three ED (Extra-low Dispersion), one HR (High Refractive Index), and one aspherical element to minimise distortion, chromatic aberration, and edge softness. Samyang’s UMC (Ultra Multi-Coating) contributes by controlling flare and ghosting for clearer results, especially in backlit scenes.
Fast and Quiet Autofocus
A linear STM motor ensures fast and near-silent autofocus, which is suitable for both stills and video recording.
Compact Design
The lens features a compact 62mm filter thread, 7-blade diaphragm, and a 70.5mm short barrel length so you can stay agile.
