Panasonic Lumix S PRO 16-35mm f/4 Wide Angle Zoom Lens
The newly announced full-frame Panasonic Lumix S PRO 16-35mm f/4 lens is the newest addition to the L-mount range of lenses. Working with the Leica and Sigma alliance, Panasonic have developed this latest offering to be part of their PRO line-up, which means it includes several high quality elements for the best image quality possible. In total there are 12 elements arranged in 9 groups. There are no less than 3 aspherical lenses, 1 ED lens and 1 UHR lens. The UHR is an ultra-high refractive element which keeps down weight and improves optical performance, together with the extraa low dispersion and aberration reducing aspherical ensure users capture beautiful results.
The 16-35 wide angle zoom range is ideal for a number of subjects including landscapes, architecture and interior work, offering a unique perspective over a wide 107° field of view, down to 63° when fully zoomed in. At just 500g this lens punches well above its' weight, and fits onto full-frame bodies such as the Lumix S1H with just the right balance. Wide angles aren't known for bokeh-inducing qualities, however with 9 aperture blades, out of focus areas appear smooth and well controlled, keeping the subject well defined and providing plenty of contrast.
The constant f/4 aperture is an ideal speed for relatively low light capability although there will be a number of users mounting this lens onto a tripod for exterior and landscape scenes. Panasonic Lumix full-frame camera s incorporate in-body stabilisation which will also allow the lens to be used in low light situations. The 16-35 has been treated with dust and splash proofing to ensure smooth functioning in all types of outdoor photography.
Close focus of just 25cm is also possible, creating dramatic angles and exaggerated views across the entire zoom range. The filter size is a convenient and common 77mm, which keeps costs down for adding existing and new filters for the S PRO 16-35mm. This will appeal to those using graduated filters and polarisers for their shooting.
