Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/1.2 ASPH. Lens Summary
The Leica Noctilux-M 50 f/1.2 ASPH. Lens has been reimagined for 2021, arriving as the modern counterpart to one of the most famous Leica M-System lenses ever made. The original from 1966 has garnered an almost mythical status over the years and this new reinterpretation is set to follow suit. Boasting Leica’s own aspherical optics enables the lens to achieve highly detailed results with excellent colour, contrast and sharpness to the edges of the image.
Whilst the optical design has been updated for contemporary rangefinder cameras, the bright aperture and compact size remain faithful to the original, as do the impeccable results. Photographs made with the aperture wide open at f/1.2 are instilled with a soft dreamlike quality, creating an unmistakably unique style with characterful bokeh. Despite the historical significance of the Noctilux-M 50mm f/1.2 ASPH., it is perfectly suited to today’s photography, across a wide range of genres with the versatile 50mm focal length. Subjects as diverse as portraits, lifestyle, documentary and street photography all fall easily within the capabilities of this standard prime.
The lens arrives in packaging inspired by the original and is complemented by the same container which came with the original model, perfect for safe keeping and as a conversation piece in its own right.
The Noctilux-M 50 f/1.2 is the perfect accompaniment to any rangefinder cameras including the highly popular Leica M10 Monochrom, Leica M10-R and Leica M10-P models. Optics have been designed to produce high resolving images with exquisite results, whichever body the lens is mounted on.
Although primarily designed for the M System, this lens can be used with SL cameras with the Leica M-Adapter L. The adapter preserves all functions including exposure metering, automatic aperture priority exposure, and manual setting.
