Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS Z Lens with Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E2 Summary
Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z Lens Summary
In order to cater to the requirements of professional hybrid creators, Canon has introduced a new line of hybrid mirrorless RF lenses. This initiative begins with the Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z Lens, which combines professional image quality with a highly versatile standard zoom range.
The all-new hybrid lens boasts a constant f/2.8 aperture throughout the range, along with highly flexible aperture control through an 11-blade rounded design, which features 32 steps between stops and an auto position iris lock with release switch.
Aside from versatile aperture control and the ability to capture a truly cinematic look, users gain an optical design with electronic parfocal feature, which renders high image quality, while reducing the effects of focus breathing. The lens is compatible with correction functions, and transfers lens metadata for a more streamlined post production workflow.
Built-in optical image stabilisation provides a 5.5-stop advantage against camera shake, while pairing with an IBIS equipped Canon mirrorless camera sees this increase up to an incredible 8-stops of coordinated IBIS stabilisation. Whether shooting handheld or with a gimbal stabiliser, this level of IS provides a distinct advantage, resulting in extremely stable images in any lighting conditions.
When shooting in AF the lens makes use of dual Nano USM motors for smooth, fast and quiet autofocus, and the AF system facilitates electronic parfocal stability. Additional pro-level features include two lens function buttons and a signature control ring for intuitive operation and user customisation.

Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z Lens in More Detail
A new line in hybrid lenses
The arrival of the Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z Lens heralds a new era for Canon creators who capture stills and record video. The fast standard zoom amalgamates many of the best features from the RF lens range with those from broadcast and cinema lenses.
The result is a versatile, user friendly and advanced zoom, which is packed with technology capable of achieving equally professional results for filmmaking and photography. It offers exceptional image quality and benefits from the versatility to capture a cinematic look, setting new standards for hybrid content creation.
For professional photographers
Professionals photographers benefit from a preferable 24-105mm zoom range, which is matched by a constant f/2.8 aperture and 11-blade rounded diaphragm. This enables you to shoot creatively with a shallow depth of field to separate the subject, while creating beautifully rounded bokeh and soft defocus areas in the image.
Coordinated image stabilisation
This lens takes advantage of up to 5.5-stops of optical image stabilisation, which increases to 8-stops when combined with a compatible body, which features IBIS. The benefits of improved IS are multifaceted, with shake-free results at relatively slow speeds, lower ISO and sharper results in low light.
Combined image stabilisation is effective even when recording from a gimbal stabiliser, ensuring smooth footage is captured in virtually any scenario.
Professional image quality
Canon’s optical design for the RF 24-105mm f/2.8 incorporates four UD (ultra-low dispersion) elements and three aspherical elements. UD glass shares characteristics with fluorite, such as having a low refractive index and low dispersion properties. While it may not match the performance of fluorite, its capabilities are notably superior to regular optical glass.
Canon’s incorporation of UD glass has enabled them to produce a lens that delivers outstanding performance while remaining competitively priced, compared to previous offerings.
The inclusion of aspherical lens elements helps to compensate for distortion at the wide end of the zoom range, and compensate for spherical aberrations with the large maximum aperture. All of this know-how translates into stunning results for both stills and video, with breathtaking clarity and effectively controlled image artefacts, which will wow any audience.
Iris ring control
Although advantageous for photography, advanced iris control will be of special interest for filmmaking projects, where the RF 24-105mm f/2.8 IS USM lens provides highly flexible control. Smooth and silent operation with 32 steps between stops and a lock release switch for Auto setting allow you to take complete control over the aperture, even in completely silent recording settings.
Whether you need to adjust exposure or depth of field, you can do so with complete confidence with the RF 24-105mm f/2.8 lens.
Dual Nano USM motor
The newly developed hybrid lens adopts Canon’s Dual Nano USM motor, which was first seen in the groundbreaking Canon RF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS USM lens. This system provides effective AF control with rapid and silent continuous focusing, which is perfect for stills and video.
